Who Is Jesus?

I want you to be empowered.  Week after week folks enter through the doors of any given church, searching for something to fill the void in their lives … the world and every one of us has a void and we try to fill it with everything imaginable except the One Thing that will not only fill it but will overflow it.  We enter the doors to get healed from something that has plagued us throughout the previous week; to come because we have a hope that this Jesus that those who speak from the pulpit about, is who they say He is and He will do what they say He will do.

So before we jump in, I want to explain what’s about to take place.  For me music is a huge part of my life; I love to sing to and for God, I love to worship Him and it’s like a medicine for me.  For me it’s a time where I can “forget” about that which nips at my heels and focus on the One True God.  Music is one way (a real good one too) for us to catapult ourselves into the very presence of God, why because He will come to us as we praise Him Psalm 22:3.

I’m going to add some music to help emphasize a point or to bring a message that will equip you to stand a little straighter and to walk a bit more boldly in your life because you are a child of the King who sometimes has struggles and you need a reminder that He hasn’t forgotten about you; but more importantly we need a right view of who Jesus is.

Ezekiel 37 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Right now rise up, hear and receive that which the Lord has set aside for you even before the foundations of the earth.  Today is your day of salvation.  So who is Jesus? I pose that question to you not to hear an answer just yet, but to give you something to think about because often times we just throw out an answer during a Bible study that we think someone wants to hear and that’s ok, to some extent, because we can sure build each other up in the Lord that way, which is exactly what we are to do for one another when we gather at the river that flows by the throne of God. But this morning seek for yourself, here’s the deal this Jesus wants a relationship with you above everything else.  Yes He’s concerned over the things in your life but He wants you … because the fact of the matter is you could be healed, you could be blessed beyond measure, your loved ones could receive salvation but if you don’t have Jesus and He doesn’t have you, you are bankrupt …  Philippians 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.

Who is Jesus? Men have tried to define Him, scientists have tried to disprove Him, the world has tried to hide Him, even you have been determined to figure it all out.  Who is Jesus? Before we can get to an answer we’ve got to figure some things out as well as to the validity of the question but more importantly how to make this Jesus we are seeking, more real to us than ever before.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God … can we all agree to those first four words in the Bible? Sweet;  So the rest of chapter one develops the creation story.  Everything is described as very good.  And we discover what God’s plan was in the beginning with man … and 1:28 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. We move into chapter 2 and a bit more is revealed in the plan 2:15 15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

God’s desire, His plan for mankind was for us just to know HIM.  See He said for in the day that you eat of it (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil) man didn’t know what evil was, he didn’t even know what good was … all man knew was GOD.  Yet in all of that God wanted to be wanted by us.  It isn’t because He has an ego to boost, it isn’t because He’s needy … He wanted to provide us the opportunity to seek Him and find Him; for us to desire Him alone … after all would you want to make someone stay with you who didn’t want anything to do with you?

But we find in Genesis 3:6 sin entering the world and consequences come out of the choices made.  These consequences are for Satan, for man, for woman, and for the earth.  That which God created, was perfect, perfect man was put in a perfect situation.  He had fellowship with God, what more could the possibly be? He was given free will and in the choice of sin over righteousness, fellowship with God was now lost forever. However God had the perfect plan:  Jesus.

Who is Jesus? He is the atonement, which is like a ransom to pay to redeem us.  His giving up heaven for our sin, allows us to be brought back to God; so that we might once again know only God. He is the Way the Truth and the Life He is the only way …

Who is Jesus?

Do you know Him? Have you asked for forgiveness (repented of your sins)? Have you made Jesus your Lord? Today, right now,  repent, turn to Christ, receive Him as your Savior, live a life that is pleasing to Him and a reflection of who He is. Read the Book of John, that's a good place to start to get to know Him better.
